Larry was born in 2007 and adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home by Prime Minister David Cameron in 2011. His official title is Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office, responsible for keeping Downing Street house and its offices free from rats and mice. It wasn’t an easy transition for Larry though as he took time adjusting to his new residence – including sharing it with rival cats!
Larry’s Responsibilities
Larry is the Chief Mouser of Downing Street and has a unique set of duties to fulfill. His duty involves controlling rodent populations that could threaten the cleanliness of the building; additionally, he ensures that mice do not chew away important documents or wires which could lead to dangerous situations.
Larry as Chief Mouser enjoys exclusive access to all areas of Downing Street property, including the Prime Minister’s office where he often relaxes on one of its chairs or desks. Furthermore, as a public figure, Larry has been known to graciously welcome visitors from time to time.
