Who is Maxine Carr?

Maxine Carr worked at St. Andrew’s Primary School as a teaching assistant.

She was imprisoned for providing Huntley with a bogus alibi after he murdered Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, both aged ten.

During his murder trial, Carr famously turned on Huntley, referring to him as “that creature in the box” while he sat in the dock.

Along with child killer Mary Bell and James Bulger’s murderers Robert Thompson and Jon Venables, she is one of only four former UK convicts who are shielded by a lifelong anonymity order.

Maxine Carr’s Boyfriend Ian Huntley

Maxine Carr, who was 22 at the time, met Ian Huntley, who was 25, at a Grimsby nightclub in 1999.

Shortly after, she moved into the killer’s flat in Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire.

Huntley began working as a caretaker at Soham Village College in November 2001, and he moved into a cottage that came with the job.

Carr, who was living in the tranquil village with Huntley, worked as a teaching assistant at the school where Holly and Jessica were students.

Carr consistently vouched for Huntley in the two weeks following his abduction.

It meant that he was initially ruled out as a suspect. She also cleared the evidence from their home.

Witnesses claimed that Carr was 110 miles away in her hometown when the girls were killed, which led to their arrest.

How Holly and Jessica were Dead?

On August 4, 2002, best friends Jessica and Holly were at Holly’s house for a picnic when they decided to go exploring.

They hadn’t notified anyone they were leaving the house, and Holly’s mother was anxious when she realised they were gone.

For nearly two weeks, hundreds of volunteers and police officers combed the village and surrounding area. The girls’ remains were discovered around 10 miles from where they vanished.

Huntley’s behaviour had already drawn suspicion, but Carr informed authorities that her then-fiancé Huntley had been with her at the time. She had been in Grimsby, with another man, at a nightclub.

Both were apprehended, and Huntley was convicted to a double life term with a minimum of 40 years in jail. After turning against Huntley during the trial, Carr was charged with perverting the course of justice.

What Happened To Maxine Carr?

Maxine Carr, a former classroom assistant, was only sentenced to 21 months in prison for perverting the course of justice. She was granted a new hidden identity when she was released from prison in 2004 because she was afraid she would be attacked.

Draconian legal orders guaranteed her anonymity for the rest of her life. Carr’s new identity and police protection have cost the government roughly £2.5 million since her release from jail in 2004.

Since then, the infamous liar has rebuilt her life, even remarrying in a spectacular ceremony wearing a £2,000 white gown. Carr’s besotted lover escorted her down the aisle at a beautiful wedding location in 2014, despite knowing about her terrible past.

Her new husband’s relatives, on the other hand, were alleged to be taken aback by his decision to marry Maxine after knowing of her tainted history. Maxine was claimed to have enjoyed being the center of attention, smiling and joking with guests and bridesmaids before leaving the venue’s beautiful gardens.
