On Hemsworth’s birthday, the singer releases her hit breakup anthem about her newfound independence after divorcing the actor.
Cyrus puts a romantic spin on Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” which Hemsworth is believed to have dedicated to her during one of their rekindled stretches, with her catchphrase: “I can buy myself flowers / and hold my own hand,” an allusion to Mars’ lyrics: “I should have bought you flowers / and held your hand.”
On January 30th, Cyrus celebrates her single’s success and thanks her fans on Instagram.
“Celebrating ‘Flowers’ being #1 around the world again this week!” she writes on a Polaroid image of herself dancing in a black dress. “I am so delighted that this record is connecting so well and it’s an honor for me to continue creating music for you all. These milestones would not be possible without all of you – endlessly thankful.”
August 2020: Miley shares her heartbreak with us
On a Call Her Daddy podcast episode, the singer shares her raw emotions about the end of her relationship with Hemsworth.
“I had a public, 10-year breakup,” she reveals to Alexandra Cooper. “I tried not to get lost in the emotion… it feels like losing someone you care deeply about – it truly feels like death.”
On August 21, 2019, they officially file for divorce.
Multiple sources report that Hemsworth and Baldwin have officially separated, with Hemsworth posting an Instagram message a few days later to confirm the news.
“Dear Friends and Fans, just a quick note to let you know that Miley and I have recently separated,” the actor writes. “I wish her nothing but health and happiness in her future endeavors… This is a private matter… Peace & Love.”
Reportedly, the two cite “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of their divorce, which will be finalized in January 2020.
Following the news of their split, much online commentary speculated that infidelity played a role. Cyrus quickly responded on Twitter by clarifying that she never cheated on him and their decision to part ways was for the best.
“I can admit a lot of things, but I will never admit that my marriage ended due to cheating,” Cyrus tweets. “Liam and I have been together for a decade – that much is certain! BUT at this point in time it became necessary for me to leave behind an unhealthy past. Now more than ever before I feel healthy and contented.”
In August 2019, Cyrus is photographed vacationing in Italy with her friend/lover Kaitlynn Carter, who recently split from Brody Jenner. However, that relationship fizzles out and she then links up with Cody Simpson until August 2020.

Cyrus marks a decade of love with Hemsworth by posting an emotional tribute on social media.
“Happy 10 year anniversary my love,” she writes on Twitter with a photo of an article referencing breakup rumors. “Good to see everyone is just as dumb as they were back then! Some things never change… & I hope the way you feel about me is one of them!”

GQ reports that the actor hopes to have many children with Cyrus someday–“10, 15 maybe 20,” to be precise.
Sources tell Us Weekly that the two are still taking things slow.
“Milly and Liam understand that they’re still young, so they don’t worry about having kids yet,” an insider reveals. “They consider their dogs to be part of their family.”

Years later, they would make a memorable appearance on the red carpet for an Avengers premiere in matching black ensembles.
In a recently-resurfaced clip, Hemsworth can be heard commanding Cyrus to behave “for once” while they pose together at an event. Cyrus then breaks away from Hemsworth and poses boldly in subsequent solo shots.
On February 21st 2019 Miley discusses marriage life
In an interview for Vanity Fair magazine’s March issue, Cyrus revealed that her life with Hemsworth hasn’t felt much different than before they tied the knot. The only change she’s noticed is circumstantial: losing their Malibu estate to a wildfire last November.
Cyrus believes that losing our home has had a much greater impact on us than getting married did. “Experiencing what we went through together was like being stuck together forever – you are the only two people in the world who understand,” she says.

Cyrus takes to Instagram to announce her surprise wedding to Hemsworth with a black-and-white photo of herself kissing him.
10 years later, she writes alongside the photo
Rumors of their marriage spread during the holiday season, when photos and videos emerged showing them cutting a cake at an intimate rehearsal dinner with large balloons labeled “Mr. & Mrs.”
On January 2nd, 2016 they are back together again in Australia.
On New Year’s Eve, the two are seen getting intimate at the Falls Music Festival in Byron Bay, Australia according to Us Weekly sources.
At the festival, they can be seen spending time with Hemsworth’s sister-in-law Elsa Pataky, who married Chris Hemsworth back in 2010.
Pataky wrote on an Instagram post featuring a photo of Cyrus from the festival, “I love people I can get crazy with!”
Seventeen-year-old Cyrus and 19-year-old Hemsworth first meet as costars on set of Nicholas Sparks’ romance novel The Last Song, where they play romantic leads Ronnie Miller and Will Blakelee respectively. During filming, they fall in love and take their romance off-screen; shortly after finishing up production, they are photographed sharing a kiss at an airport.
“[Liam has] become my best friend in the whole wide world,” Cyrus revealed to Parade at that time. “He really respects me for who I am; coming from Australia, he didn’t know me as the celebrity that I am here. We got to tell him about ourselves on our terms and in our own way; there was no preconceived notion of who I should be.”
