Uncle fester Actor Jackie Coopgan’s Tragic Life: The beloved Uncle Fester character is a favorite of The Addams Family. However, far from Hollywood glamour and glitz, the actor who played the role first faced tragedy in his life.

Fester is his eccentric uncle to Wednesday and Pugsley, Wednesday and Pugsley. Jackie Coogan was the actor who played Uncle Fester. Between 1964 and 1966, he was the friendly face of The Addams Family’s ABC sitcom.

THE REAL-LIFE TRAGEDIES OF JACKIE COOGAN BEFORE UNCLE FESTER

Coogan had already made $2 million in films by the time he was 21, according toto The New York Times. His mother and stepfather took care of the money, rationing Coogan to $6.25 per week.

Coogan became more mature and asked for his trust. He found that $600,000 had been spent by his stepfather and mom. Coogan sued his family but he ended up with $126,000 in his bank account after the legal fees.

The high-profile suit led to California passing the “Coogan Law,” per SAG-AFTRA. Child actors were afforded financial protection by the law, which required their parents to make at least 15% of their earnings available to them when they turn 18.

JACKIE COOGAN’S FAILURE TO DRIVE AWAY FROM A CAR CRASH

Coogan was struggling to find work as a young adult and appeared in only three films between 1927-1935.

In May 1935, he was involved in a car accident. Jackie’s father was driving along with four others to the ranch near San Diego.

reports state that young Coogan claimed to have told authorities that a road hog went too fast around a bend, and then veered into their lane. This forced his father from the road.

His dad lost control of his vehicle and drove down an embankment. They fell 40 feet off the cliff at 70 mph. Jackie was the only survivorof his car crash. He was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening but severe injuries to his chest.

His father Jack Coogan Snr, his best friend Junior Durkin, and Charles, the ranch foreman, were all tragically killed in the crash.

FRIEND’S DEVASTATING SUCCESS

Jackie was left behind with his mother and younger brother Robert Coogan. Robert was a child actor who had followed his example throughout the 1940s, 1950s. Robert died in 1978 at 53 from a non-communicable illness.

Jackie Coogan also struggled with his health. In The World’s Boy King he reveals that he inherited the father’s alcoholism. After the murder of Brooke Hart, he began to drink more often.

Local store owner’s 22-year-old son was allegedly kidnapped, and then thrown off the San Mateo Bridge. After his family had sent him a ransom request for $400,000, it happened. After they appeared to have both confessed to the other, Thomas Thurmond, and John Holmes were taken into custody.

Hart’s body was discovered on November 25, 1933, a mob erupted and stormed the prison that day. Two suspects were forced to flee by violent vigilantes who then hanged them. The incident resulted in no fines or reprimands for anyone involved.

His alcoholism led to his admission to hospital several times. One was when he drove drunk into two cars parked nearby. He suffered several strokes and kidney disease in the 1980s.

According to The Telegraph Coogan died in cardiac arrest in Santa Monica Hospital, California in 1984 at the age of 69. His four children, Christopher Fenton (Leslie Diane), John Anthony (John Anthony), and Joann Dolliver, survived Jackie.

His son Christopher, , died in July 1990 at the young age of 22. He sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident that caused his sudden death.
