The Badminton World Championships is formerly known as the IBF World Championships, which is also known as the World Badminton Championships. It is a badminton tournament sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. This tournament is offers the most ranking points, together with the Summer Olympic Games. The winners will be crowned as the World Champions of the tournament and was awarded the gold medals. However, it does not offer any of the prize money.
This tournament started in the year of 1977 and it was held once in a every three years until the year of 1983. However, the International Badminton Federation has faced the difficulty in hosting the first two events as the World Badminton Federation which was later merged with the International Badminton Federation to form the one badminton federation which was hosted the same tournament in a year after the International Badminton Federation World Championships with the same goals.
Started in the year of 1985, the tournament became the biennial and was played once in every two years of until the year of 2005. Starting in the year of 2006, the tournament was changed to an annual event on the International Badminton Federation’s calendar with the goal to give the more chances for the players to be crowned as the official “World Champions”. However, this tournament will not be held once in a every four years to give the way to the Summer Olympic Games. These are some of the Top Five World Champions in Badminton.
1. Lee Chong Wei
The Datuk Lee Chong Wei is a very talented male professional Badminton player of the Malaysia. He was the only player from the Malaysia who secured the1st rank in the men’s singles in the year of 2008 and after the players namely Rashid Sidek and Roslin Hashim were maintained this position for more than two weeks. He was a silver medalist in both the Olympics in the year of 2012 and the Olympic in the year 2008. This achievement of Datuk Lee Chong Wei helped him to earn the title easily the title of The‘National Hero’ by the country’s Prime Minister and the other tiltle ‘Datuk’ by the President as he has been responsible for the ending medal drought since the year of 1996.
2. Wang Shixian
The player Wang Shixian was also chosen as a member of the China National Junior Team in the year 2005 and just a year of later she was promoted to the second level adult team. In the year 2009, she finally got the chance of being a part of a first level adult team and she play at the International level. She also got her first Super Series title in the Malaysian Open by beating the Wang Xian in the year 2009. However, it was came as a shock when the Badminton Olympics Team have dropped her name from the London Olympics Team in the year 2012. As a result of badminton fans from the China to walked barefoot on the street of the Beijing to condemn this decision. This has led to a drop in her ranking from the number 2 to the number 5.
3. Wang Yihan
Wang Yihan is one of the most popular female badminton players from the state of China and she also an ace Women’s Single Badminton player. She has also won the girl’s single championship in both the Asian Junior and the World Junior Championship in the year of 2006. She also won the Silver medal in the London Olympics year of 2012. Wang Yihan started playing the badminton at the early age of 9, with her coach named Wang Pengeran. Her strokes spin the shuttle in such a manner that it is very hard for her opponents to hit back the shuttle again . She is truly a rising badminton star of China and whom eyeing with many hopes.
4. Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal, the Khel Ratna award winner in badminton and is the first and the only Indian to win an Olympic medal for the country. She was also awarded with a Bronze medal in the London Olympics of the year 2012 against the player Wang Xin as she was defeated by Wang Yihan in the semi-finals. Also, she is the only Indian player in the badminton to win a Super Series Tournament, in the Indonesian Open, by defeating a higher ranked player Wang Lin in Jakarta on the year 21 June 2009. She also won the second super series title of her life in the year 2010, the Singapore Open Tournament was followed the year by the Indonesian Open in the year 2010. She was also the first Indian to win the World Junior in the Championship. Previously she was coached by S.M Arif but currently her coach name is Atik Jauhari.
5. Lin Dan
He is a male badminton player from the state of China, this player who at the age of 28 won the nine major titles in the badminton world after completing the“Super Grand Slam” title. These nine major titles were include two titles in the Olympics, four titles in the World Champion, five titles in the England Champion. His fans were used to call him by the name of Super Dan. He started this journey championship of winning the laurels for his country since the year 2000 and this saga continues. In the year of 2008, he was the first man from the China to win the gold medal in the Men’s Singles championship. He also defeated the player Lee Chong Wei in the Asian Games and hence he was also awarded with a gold medal.
