Israel under attack : Nearly 1,000 rockets have been intercepted in 38 hours, putting Israel under attack.Hundreds of rockets fired by Palestinian militants have been intercepted by Israel during the region’s worst outbreak of violence in years.

Since the battle erupted on Monday, more than 1,050 rockets have been fired at Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared on Twitter that the missiles were shot throughout Israel’s central and southern regions in less than 38 hours.

“This. Must. Stop,” the IDF added in the tweet.

According to IDF spokeswoman Hidai Zilberman, the Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted between 85 and 90 percent of rockets targeted against Israel.

According to Reuters, the Israeli military said that almost a third of the 210 rockets fired at Tel Aviv and Beersheba missed their targets and landed in Gaza.

Following an outburst of violence, Hamas, which rules Gaza and is designated as a terrorist organisation by the US, began shooting rockets into Israel.

Since the fighting erupted on Monday, dozens of people have died.

Five people were killed in Israel, according to Haaretz, in the worst fighting between Israelis and Palestinians since the 2014 Gaza War.

As the Iron Dome intercepted rockets in the skies above, Israelis huddled in shelters or hunkered down inside structures.

Israeli bombings also killed 35 people in Gaza, including 12 children, according to the publication.

According to The Times of Israel, Zilberman stated on Tuesday that Israel had dispatched 80 fighter jets to carry out operations aimed at crippling Hamas’ ability to launch missiles from the Gaza Strip.

On Tuesday night, Israeli armed forces stormed the Jewish-Arab city of Lod, where Mayor Yair Revivo compared the disturbances to a “civil war” and the 1938 Nazi Kristallnacht pogrom.

On Tuesday night, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated the government had “declared a specific state of emergency in Lod.”

He went on to say that forces were being dispatched to “restore peace and order to Lod and the rest of the country as quickly as possible.”

The recent attacks were sparked by a conflict between Palestinians and Israeli police at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque, Islam’s third holiest site.

After Palestinians threw bottles and rocks, Israeli police were seen firing rubber bullets and stun grenades inside the structure.
