A Jon Snow spin-off is in development

The news was initially reported by The Hollywood Reporter. HBO has declined to comment on the matter. Harington’s representative did not immediately respond to an EW request for comment.

If the project go forward, it will be the first follow-up to HBO’s Emmy-winning smash. After the events of Game of Thrones, which finished in 2019, the series would take place.

Spoiler warning for the original series

Jon Stark (Kit Harington) of Game of Thrones was revealed to be a Targaryen descendant, the offspring of Ned Stark’s sister Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

Snow was the incarnation of Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin’s book series A Song of Ice and Fire – the offspring, or “song,” of a Stark (Ice) and a Targaryen (Fire) (Fire).

Jon assassinated Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in the final season of the program and was exiled to the Night’s Watch, where he led the remaining Free Folk to the free regions.

Meanwhile, HBO is already at work on House of the Dragon, the next Game of Thrones TV series, a prequel set 200 years before the events of the original drama and focusing on the Targaryen empire at its peak.

The spin-off will focus on the events preceding up to and during the Dance of the Dragons, which was the term given by the poets of Westeros to one of the country’s bloodiest conflicts.

According to Martin’s companion book Fire and Blood, the Dance of the Dragons was a civil war that erupted over the Iron Throne’s succession.

Princess Rhaenyra was King Viserys I Targaryen’s designated successor until his wife, Alicent Hightower, gave birth to a male heir, dividing the royal House in half.

Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy play Rhaenyra at different phases of her life, while Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke play Alicent at different stages of her life.

In House of the Dragon, Paddy Considine plays King Viserys.

The HBO series House of the Dragon will launch on August 21.
