Gabrielle Union was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on October 29, 1972, to Theresa (Glass), a phone company manager, and Sylvester E. Union, a military sergeant and business executive.
Her family moved to Pleasanton, California, when she was eight years old, where she grew up and finished high school.
Union was an all-star point guard there, as well as a year-round athlete who competed in soccer, basketball, and track. Foothill High School was her alma mater (Class of 1991).
Gabrielle attended the University of Nebraska after high school, where she was a member of the soccer team, and then transferred to Cuesta College.
