Connor Fields, the Defender of Honor Gold Medalist, has left the critical care unit.
After a terrifying crash at the Tokyo Olympics BMX Racing semifinal, defending gold medalist, Connor Fields is no longer in the Critical Care Unit.
He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage when he fell early in the heat. He is conscious and stable, according to a Team USA physician. At the hospital, the patient will be watched over and assessed.
During the opening pass of the third semifinal heat, the 28-year-old defending champion fell off his bike and slammed into the turn, dragging down two other racers with him.
The collision also affected Sylvain Andre of France and Twan van Gendt of the Netherlands.
He sustained a “head injury with a brain bleed that may need surgery to relieve,” according to his mother, Lisa. He was also “severely hurt.”

According to USA Cycling, Fields collided during Friday’s third run in the Tokyo Olympics BMX semis.
He looked to make contact with Romain Mahieu of France’s wheels before falling to the ground severely.
