Filinvest released a statement Monday, December 12 stating that the matriarch was surrounded and loved by her family.
Filinvest said that the matriarch died Sunday, leaving behind her family in deep grief and sadness. People are now coming forward to mourn her passing after the news was announced.
According to sources, Mercedes (or Chita) was the wife the late Andrew Gotanum Sr. Filinvest Development Corporation was founded by him, who died in 2016.
In 1955, the couple founded a small-scale finance company that specialized in secondhand cars and financing.
What Happened To Filinvest Co-Founder
Forbes estimates that the Gotianum family’s net worth is $1.09 billion. The company spoke about Chita and Andrew’s harmonious collaboration, resulting in Filinvest Development Corporation.
The company is one of the largest conglomerates in the country, with interests in Filinvest Land, Filinvest Alabang, Davao, North Cotabato Sugar Central, EastWest Bank, universal banking, Filinvest Land, and Filinvest Alabang.
The company added that it plans to open hotels under the Crimson, Quest and Filinvest Utilities brands, as well as power generation under Filinvest Utilities, and build infrastructure at Clark International Airport.
Chita was the first female president of a Philippine universal banking institution. In the 70s and 1980s, she was also co-founder of Family Bank and Trust Co. She was also the co-founder of Family Bank and Trust Co. in the 70s and 80s.
The bank later became BPI Family Savings Bank, which eventually merged with the Bank of the Philippine Islands. Chita graduated from the College of the Holy Spirit as a valedictorian.
