David bellisario : Why Did NCIS Los Angeles Pay Tribut to David Bellisario in This Episode?
In its Season 12 debut, NCIS: Los Angeles paid respect to a previous producer with a title card honouring David Bellisario, a television producer who worked on NCIS: LA, the original NCIS, its antecedent JAG, Quantum Leap, and Magnum, P.I.
Bellisario died in August 2020, following a fight with brain cancer, after working on 11 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles. The producer was 63 years old.
Since the beginning, Bellisario had been a part of the NCIS family. Donald Bellisario, David’s father, is the creator of all of the shows on which he worked. Sean Murray, who played Timothy McGee on the original NCIS, is his stepbrother.
A title card at the end of NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12, Episode 1, which is now available on CBS All Access, paid respect to the producer and read: “David Bellisario. “In loving memory of our friend and colleague, whose gentleness and wisdom will be remembered for the rest of our lives.”
The Emmy-nominated producer was previously honoured in a LA Times obituary. “David realised that working for his father meant working twice as hard; he was committed to prove to himself and others that he was deserving of the position,” the letter said in part.
“Beginning as a Production Assistant, he knuckled down and rapidly ascended through the ranks of Magnum P.I. to Associate Producer. He rapidly earned more responsibilities and became a full Producer on Quantum Leap, JAG, NCIS, and NCIS LA after working for four studios and seven programmes, totaling more than 600 episodes. He regarded himself happy to have worked with such a talented and creative group of people for almost 40 years.”
“In March of 2019, David was diagnosed with brain cancer,” the obituary continues. Despite his heroic battle with the cancer and two brain surgeries, he died at the age of 63 on July 24, 2020, in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by loved ones.”
Former colleagues and coworkers were among the others who paid respect to him. “RIP David,” one former coworker comments on the obituary website Legacy.com. At the wrap-parties, I recall spending time with you. My spouse spent decades under your tutelage, from JAG to NCIS. We all looked up to you. He is a nice person. God appears to take the best people first. “A quiet force of nature with boundless imagination.”
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 airs on CBS every Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
