On Sunday, January 29, 2023, US professional freestyle skier Kyle Smaine died. He was one of two men killed in an avalanche while skiing in Japan.

The skier was only 31 at the time of his passing. According to the police, a total of five people were caught in the avalanche while they were skiing on Mount Hakuba Norikura in the Nagano Prefecture.

Taking to Instagram, the US Ski team confirmed Smaine’s death by posting a statement. They wrote that today, they lost an incredible person, friend, skier, and teammate to the mountains.

It was further written that Kyle was a World Champion freeskier who loved exploring the mountains.

He was a fierce competitor but an even better person and friend, wrote the team further. We, along with so many others, send our love and comfort to this family, friends, and community. The post soon got a lot of engagement and tributary posts flooded the internet.

What Happened To Kyle Smaine?

Apart from the ski team, William Smaine, Smaine’s father, also confirmed his death. Smaine’s wife took to Instagram to post a tribute to her late husband.

She posted a series of pictures and wrote a lengthy caption underneath. Smaine’s grieving wife addressed her husband as her whole world and shared that they tied the knot in November 18, 2022.

She went on to thank God for getting married to him. His wife added that Smaine loved skiing more than anyone she has ever met and wrote that she can not wait to see him again and to ride some pow or bikes with him in her dreams.

Within some minutes, tributes poured into the comments section on the post. His well-wishers and loved ones just could not believe what just happened as he was too young t have died such a tragic death. Talking about Kylie, he was a resident of Lake Tahoe, California.

At the 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships in Austria, he won a gold medal on the halfpipe.

It is no doubt to say that a large section of people has gotten saddened to hear about his passing and taking to social media, everyone is mourning his untimely demise.
