Although it accepts donations throughout the year on its website, the Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) hosts two annual fundraising events that provide much of its special program’s operating budget. If you want an entertaining way to donate to the MCM, attend its spring gala and its Halloween bash.
Celebrate Spring at the “Be A Kid Again” Gala
Table of Contents
Typically held in the final week of February or the first week of March, the 700 attendees at the Be a Kid Again Gala enjoy a night of dancing, dining, and entertainment. Similar to a Madi Gras party, the theme of the fundraiser changes annually. In 2019, partygoers experienced the “Leap into the Future” theme, complete with neon-outfitted astronauts. Area businesses, such as Realtor Claudette Rickett, sponsored the event.
More recently, the 2024 gala featured a “Candyland” theme, inspired by the children’s board game. Tropipop star Fonseca provided the evening’s entertainment and autographed one of his guitars before donating it to the event’s auction. If swings made of candy, Latin superstars, and black-tie attire don’t excite you, consider the more earthy of the museum’s two annual fundraisers.
Trick or Treat with Your Children at MCM
South Floridians can also enjoy the autumn social season’s highlight of fun, candy, and costumes – Halloween. Every year, the museum hosts the “Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash,” featuring trick or treating in the 17 museum galleries. Attendees decorate miniature pumpkins or brave the newest feature of the MCM fundraiser, a Haunted House. Because it designs this annual event for children, the museum ensures that its haunted house does not scare or spook anyone. It only entertains kids and adults.
Although not required, most of the individuals and families who attend the Halloween fundraiser do so in costume. Some families create costume themes, such as the Flintstones and the characters from the Mario Brothers games.
How MCM Uses the Funds
The Miami Children’s Museum uses the proceeds of its fundraisers to operate outreach programs, children’s programs at the museum, and its charter school. Each year, the museum hosts five camps for children:
- Campgiving
- Spring Camp
- Summer Camp
- Winter Camp
- One-day Camps.
The museum opens its camps, charter school, and preschool program to all children in the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. Its charter school serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
If you want to support the MCM, but can’t attend either fundraising event, you can donate by visiting the museum’s website.
