What was Shirley Eikhard death cause? Grammy-Winner, Canadian Songwriter Dies at 67: A heartbreaking piece of news has been posted online by the Canadian music industry.

Shirley Eikhard, one of Canada’s most well-known singers and songwriters, was also known for writing famous songs like “Something To Talk About”, sung by Bonnie Raitt.

Shirley Rose Eikhard was her full name. Unfortunately, she is gone. Fans are sharing their condolences and posting about her.

Who was Shirley Eikhard?

Shirley was born 7 November 1955 in Sackville (New Brunswick, Canada) and spent her childhood there. June Eikhard was her mother and Bassist Cecil Eikhard was her father. She began her career in music at an early age.

At 13 years old, she made her debut as a singer in 1969. She auditioned successfully for Mariposa Folk Festival, where she played with Sylvia, Ian & Sylvia and Bruce Cockburn.

Capitol Records discovered her name and reputation 2 years later.

She was signed to the label in 1972 and her first album Shirley Eikhard was released the following year.

At 17 years old, she released her first album. She gained immense popularity and won 2 Juno Awards: The Juno Awards 1973 and 1974.

After a three-year break, she returned with 3 new albums, Let Me Down Easy, Child of the Present, and Horizons for Attic Records.

She began performing in clubs in the 1980s, while also dealing with stage fright and throat issues. Due to her allergy, she was advised by her doctor not to perform in clubs.

She was able to continue her career by working for WEA Records, where she released Taking Charge in 1987. She wrote songs again for singers like Rita Coolidge or Alannah Myles in 1989.

Anne Murry, in 1985, wanted to record Eikhard’s “Something To Talk about”, but her producers turned it down. Although Murray didn’t include the song, Bonnie Raitt recorded it in 1991 with the same title.

It was the first single from her album “Luck of The Draw”. It received significant airplay in the 1990s, earning Raitt a Grammy Award in 1991 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In 1991, she also received a second Grammy.

Eikhard was nominated Juno for Songwriter of the Year at the Juno Awards in 1992, and later the SOCAN Classics Awards. Eikhard’s song “something to talk about” won Eikhard a Juno nomination.

Unfortunately, Shirley Eikhard, 67, died from cancer on the 15th of December 2022 in Orangeville (Ontario, Canada). Her fans have posted condolences and tributes to her on social media.
