Last season, the Green Bay Packers finished 13-3, won the NFC North, and advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the second year in a row. The Packers did lose the conference title game to Tampa Bay, 31-26, and the offseason has been full with drama. Aaron Rodgers, the Packers’ quarterback, has expressed his desire to leave Green Bay, but the team has stated that he will not be moved. In the days ahead, expect more theatrics.
Robert Tonyan: The Green Bay Packers Player
Green Bay will begin training camp practises on July 28 with or without Rodgers. I’ll be counting down the ’30 Most Important Packers’ heading into the 2021 season for the remainder of the month. Robert Tonyan, a tight end, is ranked 15th. The top-30 players that are yet to be disclosed are listed at the bottom of the report.
Robert Tonyan, No. 15 TE
Last year, Tonyan enjoyed a career year in 2020, catching 52 passes for 586 yards.
Tonyan also had 11 touchdown catches, tying Paul Coffman for the most by a Packers tight end in a season.
Tonyan tied for fifth in the league with 11 touchdowns, more than any other tight end in the league.
Tonyan also played 61.4 percent of the snaps and did not have a dropped pass, according to Pro Football Focus.
Tonyan began his college career as a quarterback at Indiana State University.
The first pass he ever completed was a 57-yard touchdown pass.
In his second season, he switched to wide receiver and went on to set multiple ISU receiving marks, including touchdown receptions (20).
Tonyan signed with Detroit after going undrafted in 2017 and was dismissed at the end of training camp.
Tonyan spent the final four weeks of 2017 on the Green Bay Packers’ practise squad before being called up the following summer.
Before his breakout year in 2020, Tonyan had a combined 14 catches for 177 yards and two scores in his first two seasons.
Tonyan, who turned 27 in April, has a bright future ahead of him.
Tonyan is one of the team’s hardest workers, and he spent part of the offseason in Nashville with NFL stars Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, T.J. Hockenson, Eric Ebron, and Kyle Pitts, the No. 4 overall pick in 2021.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur has intimated that he wants to include Tonyan in the scheme even more this season than he did last year.
Tonyan might be on his way to making his first Pro Bowl participation if this is the case.
“There are still a lot of expectations on him. He holds himself to a high standard.
When it comes to setting goals for each day, it’s a great partnership.
He has his own set of objectives that he wants to achieve each day.
He realises that by working on the drills and then seeing the big picture of everything and knowing every position on the field, he can take his game to the next level in all aspects, not just the run game.
As time goes on, his route-tree is improving. It’s gotten a lot better.
In the domain of protection, the pass game has resurfaced. Even right now, he’s still making progress.” – Justin Outten, tight ends coach for the Green Bay Packers
“I believe Bobby has developed as much as any player we’ve had in the last two years, and I know he had a great season last year, and I believe there’s still room for him to improve.
I believe he is still learning the position and will continue to improve, but I admire his attitude and work ethic, and I believe he is quite confident right now.
We’re hoping to use him a little more in our offence next season.” – Matt LaFleur, Packers coach, on Tonyan.
“I think it’s just a wonderful foundation for what I stand for and what I stand on, just coming in here every day and working hard to get better,” she says.
I am confident in my efforts. I intend to show up at work, put on my hard hat, and get to work.
It’s been amazing for me so far, and I’m going to keep doing that, as well as looking at the flaws in my game and attempting to correct them and turn them into strengths.” — Tonyan on his upcoming huge season in 2020
