Abhishekta Bhargav (Pawan Kalyan), raised without greed or materialistic desires, is raised a ‘prince in exile. As his father Govinda/Vinda (Boman Irani) and stepmother Indrani’s (Kushboo) favourite son and firstborn, Abhishekta is forced out of hiding when both his father and younger brother are brutally killed; now not only must he find out who murdered them but he must prove himself the legitimate heir of their fortune if only to protect its future success.

Agnyaathavaasi’s cast is truly spectacular with Aadhi Pinisetty playing Seetharam, Tanikella Bharani as Abhi’s uncle Vennela Kishore playing Balasubramanyam Murli Sharma playing Sharma and Rao Ramesh playing Varma; Kushboo is in this film too as Indrani who serves as Vinda’s second wife and Abhi’s mother all in all; Pawan Kalyan himself almost filling each and every frame! However this film truly belongs to Pawan Kalyan who dominates every scene.

Pawan Kalyan shines in what may seem to be an artificially concocted story, which takes influence from ‘Largo Winch.’ Trivikram attempts to give his tale his own spin by turning it into a masala potboiler; with such an intriguing plot line as one featuring a secret heir trying to prove their legitimacy one might expect the film to move quickly but that’s certainly not the case with Agnyaathavaasi. The film also features a talented cast of agnyaathavaasi, including Keerthy Suresh, Anu Emmanuel, Aadhi Pinisetty, Boman Irani, and Khushboo.

Abhi is introduced as an unapologetic vigilante who sees killing as necessary to the greater good; thus making him the hero of this tale and must remain so. However, his arch nemesis Seetharam (Aadhi), is just as deadly in that respect – no doubt serving his interests more directly than Abhi himself. Unfortunately for Aadhi though despite him doing an outstanding job of portrayal, their character never gets the opportunity to develop fully.

As is true of most characters in this film, Abhi and Indrani stand out. All other characters, save for Sukumari (Keerthy Suresh) and Suryakantham (Anu Emmanuel), Abhi’s allies in the story, are given limited screentime; especially Sukumari (Keerthy Suresh) and Suryakantham (Anu Emmanuel) whom Abhi uses as his pawns in the film.

While none are given enough screentime, characters such as Koteswara Rao (Raghu Babu), ACP Sampath Raj), and Vinda herself are all developed using flashback. All cast members did an outstanding job with what limited screentime they had available. Although songs were not given much screen-time they still managed to sneak their way into the story, though some threads could still have been integrated despite having been integrated albeit slightly.

Agnyaathavaasi was an entertaining ride despite all its flaws, had either it been taken seriously or directed and written with Trivikram’s signature flair in mind. Unfortunately, however, this film lacks soul; only its title card gives any clue that Trivikram had anything to do with making this film. Pawan Kalyan as always excelled as always while his body language and expressions betrayed disinterest from viewers.

Don’t despair though – Agnyaathavaasi still features Powerstar as the lead, making for a far from unenjoyable ride Just don’t expect PSPK and Trivikram’s usual punch dialogues as these will leave you disappointed; rather enjoy some comic scenes and fight sequences before the interval as well as its intriguing narrative and you won’t be let down.
