America face a tough Pachuca side who have yet to lose at home
Both teams are coming off of convincing victories last week as they face battle tonight (7:05 p.m. PT/9:05 p.m. CT/10:05 p.m. ET) against Pachuca.
Given that Pachuca has not suffered a home loss this season, they have played quite well at home. America’s season got off to a rocky start, but things are now starting to look up.
America recently defeated Pumas 3–0 in the Clasico Capitalino thanks to a commanding performance. Pumas knew they needed to win the game in order to move past the humiliating 6–0 setback they experienced to Barcelona.
Since such was not the case, America comfortably won and earned three points as they began to turn around their season.
Pachuca’s most recent game was ten days ago when they hosted Tigres at home. Due to the unrest that broke out in the city, their away game versus Juarez was postponed for a later time that has not yet been revealed.
Pachuca grabbed control of their game against Tigres since Tigres had 10 players left after 12 minutes. Pachuca continued to defeat the guests 2–0. Given that it is a double matchweek and Pachuca plays Leon on Saturday, the additional recovery days may be advantageous.
Having defeated the Pumas, America has moved up to ninth place and is now in the playoff race as opposed to the beginning of the season when they were consistently last.
Their lowest ranking was 17th, just above of Queretaro, who haven’t won a game yet this year. Only two points separate Pachuca and the next-place team at the moment.
If America wants to maintain their current momentum, they are aware that they must defeat Pachuca.
Given that Pachuca has the top defense in the league and has only given up four goals this year—just one of them at home—it will be a difficult task. These two last competed against one another at the Clausura 2022 semifinals.
Pachuca defeated America 4–1 overall. The game might have gone either way in the first leg, which ended in a 1-1 draw, but Pachuca gained control in the second leg.
After a remarkable comeback the previous season, America’s chances of reaching the finals were dashed on the road.
America will now return to Estadio Hidalgo in the hopes of getting a better outcome and beating Pachuca at home for the first time this year.
