Alameda County, Calif PG&E announce Monday that Oakland Power Outage has been restored to all 54,000 customers affected by Sunday’s outage

“PG&E is working safely and quickly to restore customers affected by yesterday’s outage in Oakland,” read a tweet from a PG&E spokesperson. “We expect all affected customers to be restored by 2:00 p.m. today.”

On Sunday afternoon, Oakland International Airport’s Oakland Power Outage was restored and flights resumed as normal.

Unfortunately, around 8,500 people in the East Bay still lacked access to electricity.

Safety for our customers and coworkers is our highest priority

We are still working hard to restore Oakland Power Outage to those affected by yesterday’s power outage in Oakland, which began around 2 p.m. Sunday due to equipment damage.

After working closely with fire officials throughout the night, 45,500 customers had been restoring as of 9:00 pm last night.

Our crews worked through the night assessing damage and making repairs so that remaining customers can be restored between 12:00-2:00 pm today.

According to officials with PG&E and the Oakland Fire Department, a fire at a substation transformer caused an outage. AMP is working to determine when power will be restore.

OFD Battalion Chief James Bowron reports that OFD received a call about brown smoke and flames coming from inside of a PG&E yard near 50th Avenue and Coliseum Way.

Fire crews arrived at the site

When fire crews arrived at the site, they discovered a transformer had caught fire. By 4 p.m., however, all was put out.

According to airport officials, Oakland International Airport lost power just before 1 p.m., as video from inside the security line revealed a complete standstill.

PG&E expects the Oakland Power Outage to be restore to the area around 5:45 p.m. Photos show travelers packing into hallways and waiting at baggage claim; power was finally restore at 2:50 p.m., according to airport officials.
