Kelly Pichardo American Airlines: Kelly Pichardo and another first-class passenger were accused of assaulting a passenger during their flight and using racial epithets when a male passenger intervened.

Federal prosecutors in Phoenix have sentenced a New York woman to four months in prison for interfering with crew members aboard an AirTran flight that had to divert to Phoenix last year due to weather conditions, according to federal prosecutors.

On Feb. 24, 2021, passengers reported Kelly Pichardo and another first-class passenger engaging in intimidating behavior on board the flight; both women had to be removed from the aircraft once it landed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Authorities reported the women each assaulted a passenger during the flight and used racial slurs when a male passenger asked them to stop.

Pichardo allegedly spat at the man when he attempted to record their altercation.

The FBI and Phoenix police conducted an investigation of the case, leading to the indictment of two women for disorderly conduct for verbally and physically assaulting other customers and flight crew members.

Prosecutors reported that Pichardo, 32 years old and from the Bronx, has been ordered to pay nearly $9,200 in restitution to American Airlines as a result of his altercation.

They report that Pichardo will also serve three years of supervised release following her prison sentence.

The other female passenger involved in the incident has admitted her guilt and will be sentenced in November.
