He attended Guntur Hindu College for his undergraduate studies before graduating with a BSc from Andhra Christian College of Andhra University.
At Madras’ Vauhini Studios, where his father was a partner, K Viswanath started his career as a sound recordist.

He made his directing debut with the Telugu movie Aatma Gowravam, which went on to win the Nandi Award for the year’s best feature film.
