Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, two conservative operatives, were indicted in the second state for a voter suppression scheme

Jack burkman : Right-wing operatives Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman were accused in a second state on Tuesday for allegedly arranging a large-scale robocall campaign to frighten minority voters ahead of the 2020 election.

They are notorious for their roles in a succession of absurd political schemes.

Wohl, 22, and Burkman, 54, were charged in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, with eight charges of telecommunications fraud and seven counts of bribery for “devising a phone scam to suppress voting in local minority communities by frightening citizens to refrain from voting by mail.”

These accusations, which carry a maximum sentence of 18.5 years in prison, come on top of several felony counts filed against the two on Oct. 1 by Michigan’s attorney general for the same scam.

According to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office, Burkman and Wohl made over 67,000 calls across multiple Midwest states with pre-recorded messages falsely warning people that if they voted by mail, law enforcement, collection agencies, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would use their information for pursuing old warrants, collecting outstanding debts, and more.

Over 8,100 calls were made to Cleveland and East Cleveland phone numbers, with 3,400 of them being answered by a real person or voicemail.

Wohl and Burkman have maintained they did not arrange the robocall campaign, but prosecutors in Michigan want to call the owner of a robocall firm allegedly utilised by the two as a witness, and prosecutors also claim they have an email from Wohl preparing scripts for the call.

In a statement, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said, “The right to vote is the most important component of our nation’s democracy.”

“These individuals blatantly infringed on that right in a brazen attempt to suppress votes and jeopardise the election’s integrity. Their acts will not be tolerated.”

Wohl, a conservative social media figure who was recently kicked out of Facebook and Instagram, has teamed up with Burkman, a conservative lobbyist and conspiracy theorist, in a series of bizarre pro-Trump schemes.

The duo’s attempt to defame President Trump’s competitors, including Elizabeth Warren, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Pete Buttigieg, and Robert Mueller, with bogus sexual assault charges is one of the most well-known.

Wohl is also charged with felony securities fraud in California, for which he pled not guilty in February.
