In each state, here’s how much money lawyers make.

Lawyers’ employment is expected to grow by 50,100 between 2018 and 2028, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook.

For most occupations, there is a significant amount of growth, but with the current number of lawyer employment at 823,900, it is only a 6% rise, which is approximately the same as the average growth rate for all occupations.

So it’s not exactly a flaming career path, but it’s also not on the decline.

The financial remuneration is one of the numerous benefits of establishing a profession as a lawyer; it pays well.

We investigated and created an overview of the average lawyer income by state in the United States using occupational data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Lawyers in these ten states make the most money.

According to the BLS, the national average annual compensation for a lawyer is $144,230, which is about three times the national average annual wage for all occupations, $51,960.

However, that average pay is for the entire United States, masking considerable variances based on geography, such as the state in which you live.

The top ten highest-paying states for lawyers are listed below:

  • The average lawyer pay in California is $171,550.
  • The average lawyer pay in New York is $167,110.
  • The average lawyer pay in Massachusetts is $165,610.
  • The average lawyer pay in Connecticut is $153,640.
  • The average lawyer pay in Illinois is $152,980.
  • The average lawyer pay in Texas is $150,250.
  • The average lawyer pay in Colorado is $147,560.
  • The average lawyer pay in Arizona is $145,750.
  • The average lawyer pay in Virginia is $139,180.
  • The average lawyer pay in New Jersey is $139,020.

The average yearly wage for lawyers in Massachusetts is not only the third highest in the country.

Over the last five years, it has had the third-largest increase in its average lawyer salary: 23.2 percent, from $134,380 in 2013 to $165,610 in 2018.

Lawyers in these ten states make the least money.

Lawyers make the least money in the bottom ten states, which are often less densely populated and located in the South or the Mountain states of the West.

  • The average lawyer pay in Wyoming is $105,600.

The average lawyer pay in New Mexico is $105,910 per year.

From 2013 to 2018, average lawyer wages rose 17.6 percent in Montana and 18.3 percent in Wyoming, indicating that the future for lawyers in some of these states is bright.

Many of the other ten worst states, on the other hand, have witnessed a decline in legal pay.

Idaho, the fifth-lowest-paying state for lawyers, has had its average yearly wage drop by 5.7 percent in the last five years, one of the highest rates in the country.

Unfortunately, the BLS did not have any 2018 statistics on the average lawyer salary in Delaware.
