House of the Dragon renewed for season 2 by HBO

Given HBO’s financial commitment to the programme and the fact that the premiere broke HBO’s record for the largest premiere audience for a new programme ever, the second season’s renewal is not entirely unexpected.

This past Sunday, about 10 million viewers watched across all platforms; according to HBO, that number has increased to 20 million after four days of playback.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said, “We are beyond proud of what the entire ‘House of the Dragon’ team has accomplished with season one. “Our incredible cast and crew took on a huge challenge and went above and above to produce a programme that has already become must-see television.

We are incredibly grateful to George, Ryan, and Miguel for guiding us on our adventure. Season two of the epic saga of House Targaryen will have us even more enthused than the first.

“House of the Dragon” covers the tale of House Targaryen and is set 200 years before the events of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” series. It is based on author George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” book from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” universe.

The fact that HBO made the decision after airing just one episode demonstrates how much faith parent company Warner Bros.

Discovery has in the series before any sustained significant viewer reaction, even though a second season renewal for “House of the Dragon” was all but guaranteed — Martin and company were already discussing Season 2 plans during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The HBO team, led by chief content officer Casey Bloys, has been searching for a worthy replacement for “Game of Thrones” for years. With 10 episodes that cost just under $20 million to make each, “House of the Dragon” is the result of their search.

Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans are among the actors who appear in “House of the Dragon.”

Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn are among the additional cast members.

Ryan Condal, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside “Game of Thrones” director Miguel Sapochnik, and Martin co-created the project. Ron Schmidt, Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis, and others are executive producers as well.

On Sundays at nine, “House of the Dragon” premieres on HBO and starts streaming on HBO Max.
