The Goshen Massacre: On January 16, 2023, a small town in California witnessed a horrific crime that claimed the lives of six people, including a baby and a grandmother. The shooting, which authorities have described as a targeted attack possibly related to drug cartels or gangs, has shocked the community and raised questions about the motive and the suspects. Here is a timeline of the events that led to the Goshen massacre and the aftermath.

A week before the shooting: A search warrant and an arrest

A week prior to the shooting, on January 9, 2023, Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a search warrant at the home where the massacre would later take place. The home, located on Harvest Avenue and Road 68 in Goshen, belonged to Eladio Parraz Jr., 52, who lived there with his mother, Rosa Parraz, 72, his daughter, Alissa Parraz, 16, and her son, Nycholas Parraz, 10 months. According to Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, deputies found drugs, ammunition and weapons at the residence. Eladio Parraz was arrested and later bailed out as a result.

The day of the shooting: A brutal attack and six deaths

The shooting occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on January 16, 2023. Deputies responded to a call of shots fired and found two bodies outside the home along the street. They were Alissa Parraz and her baby Nycholas. Sheriff Boudreaux said that forensic evidence showed that Alissa had tried to run away with her baby in her arms, but was caught by the shooters and shot in the head from above, execution style.

Deputies then found the door to the main house forced open and one person dead in the doorway. He was Marcos Parraz, 19, Eladio’s nephew. Inside the house, deputies found Rosa Parraz dead in her bed, also shot in the head. Another victim was found dead in the threshold of the door to a trailer near the house. He was Jennifer Analla, 50, Eladio’s girlfriend.

The sixth victim was Eladio Parraz himself, who was not at the home at the time of the shooting. He was found dead in his car at a nearby gas station. He had also been shot in the head.

Three other people who were at the home survived the shooting uninjured. They were Eladio’s brother, his brother’s girlfriend and their son.

The investigation: A targeted attack and possible cartel involvement

Sheriff Boudreaux called the shooting a targeted attack and not a random act of violence. He said that it was likely related to drug activity at the home and that the shooters knew who they were looking for. He also said that because of how the victims were killed — shot in places where a quick death would follow — it was possible that a drug cartel or a gang was involved.

“I’m not saying this is a cartel,” he said at a news conference on January 17. “But also be clear, I am not eliminating that possibility.”

He also said that there were multiple shooters involved and that they used firearms of different calibers. He did not reveal any information about possible suspects or motives at that time.

The aftermath: Two arrests and a reward

On February 3, 2023, nearly three weeks after the shooting, Sheriff Boudreaux announced that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the massacre. They were Noah David Beard, 25, of Visalia and Angel Uriarte, 35, of Goshen. Both were identified as gang members and were charged with six counts of murder each.

Sheriff Boudreaux said that deputies executed three search warrants and recovered evidence linking Beard and Uriarte to the crime scene. He also said that they received tips from the public that helped them identify the suspects.

The sheriff’s department had offered a reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Initially, the reward was $10,000, but it was later increased to $25,000. It is not clear if anyone claimed the reward.

The sheriff praised his deputies and investigators for their work on solving the case. He also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked the community for their support.

“This is one of those cases that will haunt you for your entire career,” he said. “This is one of those cases where you don’t sleep at night.”
