Why is ‘Ashley Garcia’ on Netflix being cancelled?

Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love (formerly known as The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia) is the most recent Netflix series to be cancelled, with the Mario Lopez-created series ending after 15 episodes.

The final episode, on the other hand, will be a Christmas special, premiering on Netflix on December 9th.

This holiday episode of Ashley Garcia, on the other hand, will be a mixed blessing for fans of Paulina Chávez’s youthful brilliance.

On the one hand, it provides viewers another taste of the show, but it is thought to be a standalone episode about the characters celebrating Christmas, which means it is unlikely to resolve any storey elements left unresolved at the close of the previous season. Ashley Garcia was cancelled by Netflix for a reason.

When Netflix chose to cancel Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love / The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia after only a two-part first season, several issues appeared to be at play.

To begin with, the streaming service appears to be shifting away from multi-camera sitcoms: Friends or The Big Bang Theory, for example, are sitcoms shot on fixed sets in front of studio audiences with multiple cameras in relatively fixed positions.

Netflix only has one major multi-cam sitcom left, Mr. Iglesias, out of all the major multi-cam sitcoms it has produced, including The Ranch, One Day at a Time, and Alexa and Katie.

Though Netflix appeared to be moving away from multi-cam sitcoms in general in recent years, particularly when The Ranch ended after four seasons at the start of 2020, the coronavirus may have had a role in the decision to cancel Ashley Garcia.

The series was terminated in August 2020, along with another multi-cam series starring WWE wrestler Paul Wight, The Big Show Show.

Because both performances were shot in front of live studio audiences, filming them in a COVID-secure manner would have been extremely impossible.

COVID-19 is also suspected of being responsible for the cancellations of several other Netflix series, including I Am Not Okay with This and The Society.

Netflix, on the other hand, may have been hesitant about what to do with Ashley Garcia from the start, as seen by the fact that the show’s name was altered midway through its first season.

The show’s cancellation may have been influenced by low ratings. According to the Netflix charts, it is just the 300th most-watched show in the globe this year, according to FlixPatrol. Part 2 of the show only spent three days in the top ten in the United States.

Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love is available on Netflix right now.
