Ben Affleck Tattoo may have initially embellished his large post-breakup tattoo, but as he explained to The New York Times, he believes it was justified.
“I was angry that somebody got a picture of it by spying on me,” Affleck revealed in a candid interview published Tuesday by The New York Times.
He was referring to the iconic paparazzi shot featuring his colorful back tattoo — depicting a phoenix taking flight — which he acquired during his divorce from Jennifer Garner.
“It felt invasive. But you’re right – that wasn’t really my business.’ In retrospect, I guess I got a kick out of messing with Extra. When they asked ‘Is your tattoo real or not real?’ Of course, it is real! No, I put a fake one on my back and then covered it up,” Affleck revealed in reference to an interview he conducted in March 2016 with Extra’s Mario Lopez.
In 2016, Oscar winner Jennifer Garner claimed that her tattoo, which some had deemed so bad it couldn’t be real, was “fake for a movie.”
After months of speculation that his tattoo was real, ben affleck tattoo finally confirmed during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2019 that it was indeed genuine.
DeGeneres once joked that her tattoo looked like a phoenix “rising from your behind.”
But Affleck stood by his body art, telling her that it “represents something important to me.”
