Sir Salman Rushdie was stabbed in his neck in New York State. According to CNN, he airlifted from the scene to a local hospital. His condition is not known. A state trooper took Salman’s attacker into custody. It happened just before Salman was about to take the stage at Chautauqua Institution in NY to deliver a lecture.
Sir Salman Rushdie was, for a brief time, “Mr. Padma Lakshmi” The author, who won the Booker Price with his second novel Midnight’s Children in 1981, married the actress and culinary legend in the early 2000s. In 1999, Rushdie and Laskhmi first met. They met at a New York City party. He still married to Elizabeth West at the time. Padma was an actress and model at the time. Padma, then 28 years old, said that Salman was her favorite person. This statement was made to Tatler magazine in 2000 by the New York Post.

According to Padma, the early years of their marriage were “blissful.” She wrote in her memoir, however, that their relationship strained by professional and health issues. Padma has endometriosis. This is a painful uterine condition. She would later create the Endometriosis Fund of America to increase awareness.
At times, Padma was so in pain that she couldn’t have sex and was unable to get out of bed. She told People that Salman took it personally and that he felt rejected. In her memoir she said that Salman called her a bad investment because she didn’t have enough intimacy.

In his 2012 memoir Joseph Anton Rushdie wrote about Rushdie’s marriage. It shares the title of the security name he used. The New York Times stated that Salman’s feelings for Rushdie — which he would eventually learn — were genuine, but in the third person.
She was ambitious, and often lost the feeling. They would live a kind of life together, eight years from their first meeting until final divorce. It was not an insignificant amount of time. In the end, however, she broke Elizabeth’s heart.

Salman had a son, Zafar (born 1979) with his first wife, Clarissa L. (married 1976-1987). He and Elizabeth West, who married 1997-2004, welcomed their son Milan on 1997. Padma is the only child of Krishna and her daughter.
