Pedro Infante, a well-known Mexican musician and actor, has been honoured with a new Google Doodle. Here’s everything you need to know about the singer who has drawn comparisons to Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, and Elvis Presley.
Pedro Infante Early Life
Infante was born on November 18 in Mazatlan, Mexico, a fishing town. He learned music from his father as a carpenter apprentice, mastering the guitar, piano, violin, and drums. While travelling with his father’s band, La Rabia, he became known for his vocals.
“His soulful croon forever revolutionised the way the mariachi was sung, and he helped promote the genre around the world,” according to Google.
Infante was a well-known character during Mexico’s Golden Age of Cinema, having appeared in 60 films and recorded over 360 songs over a 14-year period.
His first prominent part came in the 1943 film La Feria de Las Flores, followed by Ahi Viene Martin Corona, Los Hijos de Maria Morales, and La Vida No Vale Nada.
Infante’s renowned performance in 1953’s Pepe El Toro allowed him to channel his enthusiasm for boxing on screen, while his portrayal as a motorcycle cop in A Toda Máquina was notable for its high-speed action sequences.
Pedro Infante was a kind hearted person
Infante was known for his modesty and desire to aid people in need with financial support or jobs, despite his popularity and prosperity, according to the Latin American Herald Tribune.
According to the newspaper, he once refused service at a restaurant until he had helped the establishment’s distressed owner complete the dishes.
Infante died in a plane crash in 1957. For his portrayal in Tizoc, his final film, he was posthumously won a Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 7th Berlin International Film Festival.
His 100th birthday would have been today.
