The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE):

The All India Council wants to close down about the 800 engineering colleges all across the India as there are no takers for their seats, and the admissions are plunging in these institutions every year, this statement is told by The AICTE chairman, Mr. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe.

There are approximately 150 colleges among which are closed down the voluntarily every year due to the stricter AICTE rules. According to a rule of the council, the colleges that lack in the proper infrastructure and the report less than 30% admissions for the five consecutive years which will have to be shut down.

The AICTE chairman was in the Bengaluru on the Friday to inaugurate the ‘Green Hand’ sculpture, which signifying the pivotal role humankind plays in the preserving and to nurturing the environment, at the New Horizon College of Engineering, Marthahalli.

According to the website, The AICTE has approved the progressive closure of the more than 410 colleges across the India, from the years 2014 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2018. The Twenty of these institutions are in the Karnataka. A maximum number of the institutions was approved for the closure in the year of 2016 to 2017. The Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have the maximum number of colleges which have sought the progressive closure.

Failing to a survive, the private engineering colleges either seek the progressive closure and it ultimately shut down or turn into the polytechnics or the science and the arts colleges. The Progressive closure means the institute cannot admit the students to the first year in that academic year, for which the progressive closure is granted; however, the existing students will be continue. He also advised the engineering colleges and the universities to revise and renew their syllabus, which is the major cause behind the fall in the number of admissions in the colleges and also the quality of education they impart.

The Internship is the time when most of the students are observed by the companies and to have a fair chance of being absorbed. So, it is better to be hired that the way instead of depending on the just five minutes of the interview at campus placements. My advice to the budding engineers is that they should be more attentive and also hardworking during the internship. With the quality of the engineering education and the balance in the number of the engineering students and their employability is being big challenges, the AICTE has introduced the plan for the teachers’ training.
