Rehman Rahi, a citizen of Pakistan, was also awarded the Jnanpith Award 2007.
He was the first Kashmiri writer ever to receive an award for his poetry collection Siyah Rood Jaeren Manz.
In 2000, Sahitya Akademi awarded him the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, which was also presented to him in New Delhi.

Rehman Rahi was a 1925-born clerk who worked in the Public Works Department of the Government. He later became a member of the Progressive Writers Association, where he later became the General Secretary.
Later, Rehman worked as a sub-editor for the Urdu daily Khidmat. Rehman graduated from Jammu and Kashmir University with a MA in Persian and English.
