ISO Standards Development Process

The ISO, or International Organization for Standardization, is a procedure that begins when industry associations or consumer groups make a request for a new standard.

The ISO then assembles a technical committee of subject matter experts and industry stakeholders. The committee creates a draught standard in two rounds and holds a formal vote on the second draught, known as the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS).

If the FDIS is recognized as a certified secretariat, the ISO will publish it as a formal international standard.

• Review of quality documentation: The ISO auditor will examine all of your quality manuals and papers pertaining to the organization’s various policies and processes. Existing work reviews will undoubtedly assist the ISO auditor in identifying potential gaps in the ISO standards’ criteria.

• Create an Action Plan: Following the auditing process, you should have a plan in place to close the gaps in your organization. The tasks that must be completed in order to bring about the desired improvements in your business must be stated.

Perhaps you need to provide your personnel with training so that they can function efficiently while adapting to new practices. In terms of efficiency and quality requirements, all staff must be aware of the ISO standards.

STAGE 1: An ISO auditor will attempt to discover any potential nonconformities in your systems and procedures with the planned quality management system.

These non-conformities would be divided into minor and large non-conformities. The applicant must be cautious in assessing these non-conformities and ensuring that they are aligned with the intended quality standards by modifying the organization’s procedures and processes.

STAGE 2: After the organization has changed, the ISO Auditor conducts the final audit. He’ll make sure that all non-conformities are addressed in accordance with ISO quality standards. The auditor will prepare the final ISO audit report and send it to the registrant once he is satisfied.

• ISO certification completion: Once all non-conformities have been addressed and all findings have been documented in the ISO audit report, the registrar will award you ISO certification.

• Surveillance Audits: These are performed to check that the organization’s ISO quality criteria are being met. It is usually done on a regular basis.
