Actor Ryan Grantham, best known for his brief role in “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Ryan Grantham” and appearances on “Riverdale,” has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the shooting death of his mother.
Grantham, 24, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the 2020 killing of Barbara Waite, 64 as she played piano in their British Columbia home. CBC reported that Grantham will be eligible for parole after 14 years.
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Ryan Grantham is renowned for his roles in several movies, such as 2010’s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, where he played an onstage adaptation of “The Wizard of Oz” that featured students portraying shrubs.
He also featured in “Riverdale” as Jeffery Augustine, a teenager who hits Fred Andrews with his father’s truck and kills him.
Grantham confessed to the murder in a GoPro video, showing off his mother’s body according to evidence presented in court.
Prosecutors said Grantham fled the crime scene with Molotov cocktails and firearms with plans to murder Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa. He also considered carrying out a mass shooting before surrendering to police, according to CBC.
Defense lawyer Chris Johnson told CTV that the actor, who has been jailed since his arrest, expected Justice Kathleen Ker’s sentence.
“I think he’s quite fearful,” Johnson said, noting that as a small person, he would likely feel overwhelmed and intimidated by going to prison.
