1. Double Decker Living Root Bridge

This is one of rare wonders of Nature with little bit of contribution of Men. It is actually roots of Tree which are intertwined into complex maize of strong rope that it can support up to 50 people simultaneously. To reach the double decker bridge there are approx. between 3000-3500 steps, which is to be climbed down. The village near the double decker bridge is called Nongriat. You have to cross two suspension bridges that run over crystal clear Blue River. And on the entire route you will keep running into breathtaking views/scenes including the natural’s pool formations.

2. Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures

The biggest museum you will see in Meghalaya. It is arranged on 7 floors with 17 galleries. There’s a sky walk at the terrace which is another unique feature. The collection is huge with detailed explanations on North East and its various tribes. It’s a must visit destination in Shillong. The center has a collection of all the finer details of North East and its rich culture beautifully displayed and cited. Is very elaborate and rich with north eastern past and present. And Has multiple rooms on different levels. It takes you through the journey of the various sects and tribes of meghalaya. It has a little cafe and a sky walk on the top floor.

3. Nohkalikai Falls

Nohkalikai falls of Cherrapunjee is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Meghalaya. Its beauty is speechless and people get the most exciting experience in that place. It’s one of the most spectacular and highest waterfalls in the state. The waterfall is located near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. Nohkalikai Falls are fed by the rainwater collected on the summit of comparatively small plateau and decrease in power during the dry season.

4. Umiam Lake

This is also known locally as Bara Paanee. The lake has been created by creating a dam on the River Umiam. Umiam lake or Barapani is the first natural sight that you see which makes you feel that you have entered into the abode of clouds. The sunset was truly a great sight to see from the lake. It is located near Shillong and is very huge providing a very iconic view to nature lovers. There is very cleanliness and a very pleasant environment. There are fresh water sports activities that are carried out at the lake subject to weather conditions and availability.

5. Roots Bridges

The bridge was one of the must see menu and missed last time while was in Shillong but not this time. This is definitely one of the must visit places in Meghalaya. The pathway to this spot from the top comprises of a concrete pathway in the beginning and stone steps in the end. It is not difficult for the elderly or the children to navigate to this place. The pathway is lined with few vendors selling natural village produce like pineapple, cucumber, watermelon, sweet potato along with handicrafts etc.
