1. Skippers Canyon Road, New Zealand

This is one of the most dangerous roads in the world. It is 16, 5 miles in length and is 140 years old. This road is situated in the southwest part of the south island in New Zealand. This skipper’s canyon road is the narrowest in New Zealand.

Two people cannot go down the road at the same time as it is very narrow. You have to take your car reverse approximately 3 kilometers to give away for the next car. This road is carved out of solid schist rock which looks the same until now.

This road is not suitable for trailers and caravans. It is also prone to slipping in the winters due to the snow that covers the road. The most famous point on this road is the skipper’s bridge which is 96 meters long and 90 meters high.

2. North Yungas Road, Bolivia

North Yungas Road is also known as the death road. It is 56 kilometers (35 mi) northeast of La Paz in the Yungas region of Bolivia.

This road is somewhat different from others. Here drivers drive from the left side and have a beautiful or Scary view of the edge of the road, whereas other roads have a driving way through the right.

There are some sections through the road that lack guardrails; also there are numerous mudslides and tumbling rocks, and small waterfalls occasionally. Every year around 300 to 400 people lose their lives due to the death road or you may say North Yungas Road.

3. Jalalabad–Kabul Road, Afghanistan

It is a road that is 143 kilometers in length that connects Kabul and Jalalabad, Afghanistan. This road is also the most dangerous in the world. The road is meant for testing your stamina and skills because of its twists and turns.

The road passes through extreme mountains. Here cars can slip, buses can collide, and Trucks can lead to great damage resulting in paying lives of an individual. It was made for the first time by the West German government in 1960.

The worst situation is during the snowfall as the passengers have to wait for a long time in the queue for the road to get clear. There are foothills that the trucks and other vehicles have to travel.

4. James Dalton Highway, Alaska

It was built in 1974. It is 414 miles between the Elliot Highway just north of the city of Fairbanks and Dead horse. The highway is parallel to the trans-Alaska pipeline system. There are only three villages or towns along the whole highway.

Few rules are to be taken care of while driving on this road. Fuel is available only at three stops in between the highway, keep your headlights always on as others could be able to see it, don’t stop on the bridges or hills, and always keep a watch on the rear mirror.

There is the reason for the fatality rates on this road are poor visibility, bad conditions, and two to four-lane changes.

5. Karakoram Highway, Pakistan

Also known as “the friendship highway” that connects China and Pakistan. It also has scenic beauty. This highway is at an elevation of 4693 meters above sea level. Around 900 workers lost their lives while building the highway.

It is the best-paved highway in the world. Avalanches, snowfall, and even landslides can occur without any invitation. Another thing that should be kept in mind is to do a proper checkup of your vehicle before leaving for the trip as it is a remote area. The worst time to visit the highway is during winters and the rainy season.
