On my way home from school each afternoon, I would sit in front of the TV and open a movie channel that broadcasted English/Hindi dubbed versions of Chinese Hindi Dubbed Romantic Movies films (especially wuxia films). That was how I first became acquainted with legendary figures like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Gordon Liu.
Below is my list of the 15 best Hindi-Chinese Hindi Dubbed Romantic Movies you should watch right now
1. Enter the Dragon
Table of Contents
Bruce Lee stars as a Shaolin Martial Artist who assists British Intelligence on an undercover mission to capture Han, who is involved in drug trafficking and the sex trade.
2. Hero
Though not the best storytelling in a movie, Hero certainly stands out with stunning visuals and breathtaking camera work that will keep your eyes glued to the screen even if you try hard not to.
3. Shaolin Soccer
This was an incredibly entertaining watch. As the name implies, they play football but their style doesn’t resemble traditional football moves or skill sets at all; rather, it resembles moves seen in martial arts practice.
4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
One of Ang Lee’s finest works, it won Best International Feature Film at the Oscars. It follows Master Li’s quest to recover his sword Green Destiny after it is stolen.
5. Fist of Fury
Another classic Bruce Lee flick, and one of his best. This film inspired numerous references in other works such as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 1. Even the bride’s costume was inspired by Bruce Lee’s costume from the film!
6. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
If you haven’t watched Gordon Liu’s series “Kung Fu,” now is your chance. This was easily one of the most popular shows during primetime as I witnessed it being broadcast most days.
7. Lust Caution
Another film was directed by Ang Lee, featuring Tony Leung and Tang Wei in the lead roles. Wang Jiazhi becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of emotional intrigue with Mr. Yee, the powerful political figure.
8. The Forbidden Kingdom
The Forbidden Kingdom follows a teenager as she is transported to an enigmatic kingdom after discovering a relic.
9. IP Man
IP Man was a legendary martial arts grandmaster. Bruce Lee was one of his students. This film tells his story of him and depicts events that supposedly occurred in Foshan during the Sino-Japanese war.
10. The Grandmaster
Unfortunately, this is the only film of Wong Kar Wai that has been dubbed in Hindi. While you can get an insight into his vision from this film, I would suggest watching In The Mood For Love and Chungking Express before this one.
11. Kung Fu Hustle
An aspiring gangster terrorizes a neighbourhood, pretending to be part of an established gang. But little does he know that three martial arts experts live nearby and are ready to take him down.
12. The Way of the Dragon
Directed by Bruce Lee himself, this movie follows Tang, a martial artist who decides to assist his relatives who are being pressured into selling their restaurants by an evil syndicate. Initially I didn’t see it until recently when it hit Netflix.
13. Kung Fu Dunk
If Shaolin Soccer had been about basketball instead of soccer, this movie would’ve been it. While not a particularly great watch, it does provide some entertaining entertainment.
14. Flying Swords of Dragon Gate
Following the mysterious disappearance of innkeeper Jade, a group of marauders create a new inn. Although they appear to be law-abiding citizens, their true motivation lies in seeking out the mythical lost city.
15. Iron Monkey
Though Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra never mentioned it, I believe Kaala Bandar in “Delhi 6” was inspired by this masked crusader. This film follows a Robin Hood figure who takes wealth from the rich and gives it away to those less fortunate.
Did you enjoy these 15 Hindi-dubbed Chinese movies as much as I did, watching most of them during the afternoon?
