“Squid Game,” Netflix’s breakout hit of 2021, will be renewed for a second season, according to co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos.

Sarandos was questioned whether the violent South Korean survival drama, which has scored as the company’s No. 1 most-viewed TV series, would get a second season at Netflix’s fourth quarter 2021 earnings interview.
Sarandos said, “Absolutely.” “The ‘Squid Game’ universe is only getting started.”
He categorised “Squid Game” as part of Netflix’s increasing bouquet of entertainment properties including live experiences, games, and merchandise that the firm sees as having development potential outside of the core streaming service.
“Bridgerton,” the second most-watched Netflix original TV programme, will premiere Season 2 in March, while “Stranger Things,” Season 4 will premiere this summer, according to Sarandos.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of “Squid Game,” had previously stated that the hit series would be renewed for a second season.

Netflix had 221.8 million customers worldwide as of the end of 2021. However, when the company forecasted slower-than-expected Q1 subscriber growth and conceded that rivals may be affecting user acquisition, shares of the paid-streaming leader plummeted on Thursday.
