On the year December 31st, 1929, Chacha Nehru hoisted the tricolor flag on the banks of the Ravi river and demanded the day as “Poorna Swaraj” or can say complete self-rule, and the date is set for the day as independence was on the year of January 26th, 1930.

26th January 1950 was the day in India’s Constitution which came into effect, and the country became a republic. Republic Day has been celebrating every year in India on January 26th. Since the year 1950 to honors the date on which the Constitution of India is came into the effect. India was a colony of the British for over 200 years old and became an independent country from the brutal rule of the British Raj that following the Indian independence movement.

January 26 is celebrated to start the Indian Constitution which is replacing the Government of India Act in the year 1935 as the governing document of India. In India, it celebrates with a lot of passion. In Delhi, at Rajpath magnificent parades performing every year by regiments of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, police, and paramilitary forces march and there is also a display. India’s Defence forces are on display with the latest missiles, aircraft, and weapon systems. There are also sky shows by the Air Force of India. India will be celebrating its 71st Republic Day this year.

History of Republic Day | Republic Day Celebration

India attained Independence from British rule on the year of August 15, 1947. India did not have its own Constitution and had no option but to continue running on the British policies. However, since British policies were made to disturb the countrymen, following the policies for a long would render the struggle for freedom. As a result, after several meetings were organized between the leaders, a drafting committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. BR Ambedkar.

The task of drafting the Constitution and subsequent amendments which have taken two years, but finally, the Constitution was prepared and taken by the Constituent Assembly on the year of November 26th, 1949, which is called Constitution Day.

On the year of January 24th, 1950, around 308 members of the Constituent Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the Constitution, from which one each in Hindi and English, and after two days on the year of January 26th, it came into an effect. On the same day, the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, took the oath of office, and the Constituent Assembly to become the Parliament of India in accordance with the Constitution.

India’s Republic Day has its own significance not only in giving its people the Constitution or the power to represent India. But go back to the Lahore session of the Congress which is organized on the year of 31st Dec 1929. The elected president of congress Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru (Chacha Nehru) made an announcement that on the coming 26th is 26 1930, India will celebrate its independence. But due to many circumstances or situations it had to wait for another 17 years.

So, to remember the Republic Day in the history of the constituent assembly is agreed to give its people the constitution on the year of 26th Jan 1950, even when it was drafted two months prior on the year of 26th day of November 1949 is also celebrated as the Constitution Day.
