Australia’s Geelong is where Portia de Rossi was born and reared. She was formerly known as Amanda Rogers, but at the age of 15, she changed her name to Portia, claiming that it was the most audacious thing she had ever done.
She enrolled at the University of Melbourne to study law after high school.
Despite her meticulous study habits, Portia found herself drawing the attention of a casting director in 1993 after spotting her in a commercial. She quickly scheduled an audition for the Hugh Grant-starring low-budget comedy Sirens.
She was chosen to play Giddy, one of the movie’s three stunning models. However, Portia didn’t really start to get any meaningful notoriety until 1997.
