Monmouth park picks
Preview And Picks For The $1 Million TVG Haskell Stakes
In the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park, Hot Rod Charlie is the overwhelming favourite.
Monmouth park picks : The one-million-dollar prize Favorites have dominated the TVG.com Haskell Stakes.
27 post time favourites have won the Grade I event before of Saturday’s 54th running of the “War on the Shore.”
Hot Rod Charlie (6-5) will try to become the fourth straight favourite to win the track’s richest race on July 17, Monmouth Park’s greatest day of racing.
As part of the “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series, the winner of the 1 1/8 mile Haskell will compete in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 6 at Del Mar.
Del Mar Race Course in Southern California and Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York are holding their summer meet openers on Saturday and Sunday, featuring graded stakes races on both days. Rain is expected at Saratoga.
From 5 to 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, the Haskell will be televised live on NBC. TVG will broadcast races from the Haskell undercard at Monmouth, including four other graded stakes.
Picks for the Haskell Stakes
This year’s Haskell Invitational, which was previously known as the Haskell Invitational until last year’s name change, is unlikely to see any of the three long shots win or even finish.
Mandaloun and Hot Rod Charlie are likely to win the race and get a Breeders’ Cup Classic invitation, according to the Horse Racing Radar experts at Guaranteed Tip Sheet, who provide a preview and insight into the competition.
Hot Rod Charlie (6-5) will most certainly finish less than even money in the Haskell for the fourth time in a row.
He has no value, but he should be difficult to beat if he runs alongside Following Sea (3-1), who is making his stakes debut and is bred as a sprinter.
Mandaloun (2-1) has a greater chance of chasing down the leaders if the pace is too quick up front and the half mile times are 47 seconds or less.
According to Horse Racing Nation’s Super Screener, the value play and main contender Midnight Bourbon (9-2) is pressing and shadowing the pacesetters.
More Haskell Stakes horse profiles and betting tips, including how to wager the races and greater prizes like the late Pick 4, which features the $500,000 Grade I United Nations right before the Haskell.
Arklow (8-5), Tribhuvan (3-1) and Master Piece (4-1) are all win candidates to consider for Pick 4 tickets in the 1 3/8 mile turf event.
Then there’s the Haskell in Race 12, when TVG bettors can get money back if their horse finishes second.
That should increase the number of wagers on Hot Rod Charlie, who appears to be the best and ran his greatest race in the Belmont Stakes last time out (2nd).
However, he offers a pitiful return on a winning wager. Include Hot Rod Charlie and Midnight Bourbon in Exacta and Pick 4 wagering, as they were unable to catch Hot Rod Charlie in the Louisiana Derby in March.
All indications point to Midnight Bourbon having his finest race yet following the Preakness, with seven-time Monmouth Park riding champion Paco Lopez taking the reins for trainer Steve Asmussen (2nd).
Midnight Bourbon is a strong contender and a better risk/reward proposition than Hot Rod Charlie or even Kentucky Derby runner-up Mandaloun.
It’s a sure thing.
