Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor, made her acting debut with 2018’s ‘Dhadak’.

Janhvi Kapoor expressed on Thursday that she regrets asking her mother Sridevi not to visit the set during the production of her debut film ‘Dhadak’, where she starred alongside actor Ishaan Khatter. She considers this decision to keep her mother away from the set, despite being the dhadak movie actor and actress name in focus, as one of her biggest miscalculations in life.

Janhvi Kapoor made her acting debut in 2018’s Dhadak, shortly after Sridevi passed away at 54 in Dubai.

Sridevi was widely revered as one of the earliest female film superstars in Indian cinema, appearing in films such as Moondru Mudichu, Pokkiri Raja, Sadma, Chaalbaaz Lamhe Chandni, English Vinglish.

Janhvi revealed she wanted to distance herself from her mother as each held an unfair advantage over the other.

People were suggesting I got my first movie because of being Sridevi’s daughter, so instead I decided not to depend on her advice, telling her: ‘Please do not come on set; I must work alone.”

“Sometimes I feel foolish for taking all this nonsense seriously and all its aspects so seriously… One of my greatest regrets was not allowing her to come on set and help as my mother would’ve loved. If only I’d said, ‘Mumma, please come, I need you here” she lamented at Agenda AajTak 2023 here on its second day.

Janhvi is best-known for her roles in films like ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’, ‘Good Luck Jerry’ and ‘Mili’ and has revealed feeling pressure from comparisons to Gunjan Saxena (her mother).

“Initially I felt overwhelmed and anxious by all this extra baggage; but once I realized I was being measured against Mumma Sridevi Kapoor – my role model – it only served to motivate me further. She warned me that my first film performance would be judged against what had come before; she even mentioned to me: ‘I would never wish this kind of pressure even on an enemy! ‘,” she stated.

She states she never expected that carrying forward their legacy would weigh so heavily on her shoulders.

“Comparisons or competition between mother and daughter should never occur; no daughter should try to outdo their mom. Any actor would find it unfair for any actress competing with my mother’s legacy; my goal should not be competing but honoring it with each step I take forward, something she intends on doing until her passing,” stated Carley.

Janhvi Kapoor extended her best wishes to Khushi for making such an impressionful debut film debut with The Archies.

“During their session together, the actor revealed Sridevi didn’t enjoy watching her own films; so secretly I would watch them with her consent and pass my own opinions along to her.

Janhvi recalls watching many of her mother Sridevi’s lighter films such as Mr India with great fondness. But her fondest memory remains watching Sadma with Sridevi together.

“After watching Sadma together, I was shocked when at the end of it she did not recognize Kamal Haasan as one of her characters. After this revelation I became very distressed; consequently we did not speak for two days.” This encounter left her shaken.

As she prepares to make her South cinematic debut with Jr. NTR’s Devara film, actor Priyanka Chopra noted she has started watching old Sridevi films to “critically assess her work”.

Janhvi believes her life has come full circle since watching Devara, as Sridevi and Telugu cinema veteran NT Rama Rao (grandfather to Jr NTR) collaborated on several films such as Vetagaadu, Satyam Shivam, and Anuraga Devata together.

Devara marks her debut glamorous role.

Dressing, dancing and theatrics have always come naturally to her; she deliberately avoided glamorous roles in favor of depicting Devara’s world which is both grand and small.
