What some homeowners often forget is that the exterior of your home is just as important to maintain as the interior of your home. We all take pride in ensuring that the inside of our home is up to standard and immaculate, particularly when we have guests coming over.

However, it is important to acknowledge that the exterior of your home is viewed initially before the interior, therefore, that sets the overall tone and perception of your home before the interior is even observed.

It is important to note that the exterior of your home must not only be maintained and looked after due to aesthetic purposes, however, also due to health and value purposes. Continue reading as we discuss this in more depth.

Roof replacement

This could potentially be the largest feature of your entire home, yet it is the feature that is discarded the most. This is usually down to the fact that roof replacements and repairs do tend to be on the more expensive side and alongside this, they don’t usually need to be repaired until around 20-30 years in operation.

However, roof replacements may need fixed much quicker than you think, particularly if there are extreme signs of wear such as cracks, mould, leaks, or even gutter damage. Regardless of how this looks, it can always impose a detrimental effect on your health and wellbeing due to a variety of different reasons, therefore ensure that if it is required, invest in your roof repairs!

Improve the garden space

There is nothing more devaluing to a home than an abandoned, run-down garden, and that includes both front and back. Although the appearance of your front garden is definitely more important than the back, the back garden must also be looked after, especially if surrounding homes look onto this area, as this will portray the overall image of your home. Abandonment to the garden can ultimately make your home look derelict and out of bounds, which certainly is not the image you wish to illustrate when living in, and taking care of the interior of your home.

Therefore, spruce up your garden area by adding a stone walkway, artificial grass, flower arrangements, wooden decking, shrubs, outdoor seating, or even monoblock paving to improve the appearance of your home exterior. Although all of these projects will not be required, these are just a few ideas we believe would benefit your outdoor space, depending on the space available and your budget.

Outdoor lighting

If your take pride in the appearance of your home exterior, why not enhance it with some outdoor lighting? Outdoor lighting can be an inexpensive project but it can also be highly effective, particularly within the evening, lighting up all aspects of the home. Lighting can illuminate the exterior of your home through LED downlights, ground lights, or even wall lights adding high-end value to the house. This will also benefit those visiting your home at night or even delivery drivers approaching your house in the dark!

Add a few coats of paint

A few new coats of paint to your home exterior can look extremely refreshing! Depending on where you reside, paint can deteriorate and become beaten due to certain weather conditions, resulting in cracked and rusty-looking paint on the doors, window frames, and wherever else paint is featured on your home exterior.

This task can be easily completed by yourself, or with the help of a family member or friend, and can turn into a fun task when you have company. It is important to ensure that the project is completed carefully as a bad paint job can result in a home devaluation or a new project that looks worse than it did previously. You may even be able to use this opportunity to switch up the paint colour.

For example, if your doors and window frames are white but you are considering a revamp, perhaps paint these grey or go out with the box and opt for blue or green. Just remember, if you don’t end up liking the final result, you can always repaint in the future.

Add an extension

Although a home extension is a pricey route to go down, it can be highly beneficial in the long run, particularly if your household is growing. Most homeowners would much prefer to add an extension to their current home rather than proceed with the hassle of relocating.

An extension can take place in the form of additional rooms and space to the side or back of your home, in the form of a conservatory, or even in the form of a garage conversion, as all routes are essentially expanding your current home. With regards to your home exterior, extensions distinctively make the home look much larger, adding additional value, particularly when it comes to reselling your home on the market in the future.
