While West played in the NBA for nearly a decade, he is best known for his relationship with LeBron James’ mother, Gloria. In 2010, there were speculations and rumours that West was dating Gloria, which James was reportedly not fond of.

Despite West’s denials, he was traded to the Boston Celtics the following season. According to some accounts, James orchestrated the deal to get West out of the Cavaliers. Before opting out, he played another season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Boston Celtics selected West in the first round, No. 24 overall, and he spent three seasons with the organization before joining the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He was traded back to the Celtics after playing with the Cavaliers and James until 2010. During his nine-year career, West averaged 9.7 points per game while shooting 44.8 percent from the field.

As concerns about West’s mental health and bankruptcy surfaced, fans and NBA players rallied to his defence. Photos of the former NBA star strolling the streets and asking for money were circulated on social media months later.

While several reports stated that the NBA community wanted to help him, Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner, was the only one who could reach out.

Later, the 62-year-old business magnate gave regular updates on West’s condition. West is now employed at the same facility where he was healing.
