Bob Nalbandian, Director and Producer of Inside Metal Documentary Series & Band Vs Brand Documentary, died December 31, 2022.

Bob Nalbandian, a journalist and filmmaker specializing in metal history, died today in Redding California.

Bob Nalbandian, the director and producer of Inside Metal, died suddenly. The music industry is deeply saddened by the loss of this great artist. We are sorry for the loss.

Bob Nalbandian’s cause of death was from an illness. The exact type of illness that he was suffering from is not yet known. Nalbandian’s friends, family and musicians shared their deepest condolences via social media.

Who was Bob Nalbandian?

Bob Nalbandian began his career in the music and entertainment industry at the age of 17 as the publisher/editor-in-chief of the legendary heavy metal fanzine.

The Headbanger, April 1982, was a nationally distributed magazine that featured the first profiles of LA bands Metallica and Megadeth.

Nalbandian was a contributing editor to many popular music magazines during the 1980s and 1990s. It includes Metal Rendezvous and Creem, Music Connection and Hit Parader. Nalbandian was also an associate editor for Men’s Perspective and Platinum.

Before The Headbanger’s disbandment in 1985, Bob Nalbandian was the manager of EDEN, an Orange County, California hard rock band. He signed the band to an Enigma/Restless Records global deal in 1984.

Nalbandian hired Marty Friedman in the early 1990s as a guitarist for Megadeth. He later served as president of Roadrunner Records’ west-coast branch. There, he worked with many of Roadrunner Records’ cutting-edge acts, such as Sepultura, Type O Negative and Last Crack.

Bob Nalbandian’s career

Nalbandian was Roadrunner’s employee for one year, before he moved on to assist Herb Cohen at Bizarre/Straight Records as label head (Rhino/WEA).

In the 1990s Bob Nalbandian also obtained license agreements from many international businesses, including Century Media (US and Europe), Roadrunner Japan (UK & Europe), Cherry Red/ Hear No Evil/ Universal Music(UK & Europe), JVC/ Victor Japan, Music For Nations (UK), Bandai/ Apollon Japan, Polystar Japan, and High Vaultage/ Metal 4 Muthas Germany.

Bob Nalbandian, the director and coproducer of BAND VS. BRAND (both MetalRock Films (Cleopatra Entertainment) and INSIDE MELTAL was Bob Nalbandian.

The Inside Metal films include “Pioneers of LA Hard Rock and Metal”, “LA Metal Scene Explodes,” and “The Rise of LA Thrash Metal.” Each film is split into two parts.
