Spinal Surgery

Abby Lee Miller was one-year ago diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma. She had to have spinal surgery because of an infection.

In an emotional post on Instagram Wednesday, the reality star shared a photo of her scar.

Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure that permanently joins two or more vertebrae to stabilize the spine and prevent them from moving.

This helps to alleviate pain and other symptoms caused by abnormal movement of the vertebrae.

In some cases, it may be necessary to place a bone graft between the fused vertebrae to help strengthen and stabilize the spine.

The bone graft may be taken from your hip, pelvis or another area of your body (autograft), as well as from a bone bank.

Other procedures used to treat spinal pain include laminectomy, discectomy and foraminotomy.

These procedures widen the opening or foramen through which spinal nerve roots exit the spine to relieve pressure on the nerves and reduce pain.

Physical Therapy

Abby Lee Miller is working tirelessly to get her back on the road since last year’s spinal surgery. She’s been in physical therapy for over a year and is making steady progress.

In an Instagram post, she shared a video of herself walking very short distances using a walker to prove that she’s getting stronger every day.

She also said that she’s thankful for people who’ve helped her along the way, and that she’ll continue to thank them.

After her diagnosis, she fought back against her cancer with ten cycles of chemotherapy and an emergency surgery. Dr. Hooman Melamed, a spine surgeon who helped her fight her cancer, recounted her journey in a special episode of Entertainment Tonight, and it left Miller teary-eyed.

Abby Lee Miller is now able to sit up and be mobile thanks to her wheelchair, but she’s still working to get back on the dance floor. She’s not going to let her disability stop her from chasing her dreams.
