Zosia Mamet was born in the Vermont town of Randolph. She is the daughter of David Mamet, an American playwright, essayist, screenwriter, and film director, and Lindsay Crouse, an actress.

Willa, her sister, is a singer, and she has two half-siblings, Clara, who is also an actress and director, and Noah, who is an actor and director.
She resided in New England until she was five years old, when her mother and Willa and Zosia relocated to Pacific Palisades, California. Mamet decided to pursue acting instead of going to college after graduating from high school.
