Who is leaving days of our lives : The future of Days Of Our Lives is now in doubt, with NBC concluding production on Season 56 and no plans for a new season of the daytime drama yet announced.
Is the Show ‘Days of Our Lives’ Canceled After 56 Years?
According to TV Line, the current 56th season’s production ended on April 16. Although no decision on a renewal has been made public, the publication reports that NBC and Sony Pictures Television are in talks about the show’s future. NBC did not respond to a request for comment.
This is the second time in recent years that the show’s future has been questioned. The entire cast was released from their contracts in November 2019, and the show was put on indefinite pause. The show was later renewed for Season 56 in January 2020, before being forced to halt production in the spring due to the epidemic.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy said at a Television Critics Association event just before the show was last renewed: “Days of Our Lives will, of course, continue. It’s fantastic…. That will be great news for the fans, I’m sure.”
The show has had a difficult year since then. Kristian Alfonso left the soap after 37 years in July 2020. She told Entertainment Tonight that she made the decision to depart when producers suggested she take a five-month hiatus from the programme and return with a new narrative.
She stated, ” “It had never been discussed before, but that’s exactly what it was. And when they said they’d be back in five to six months, or four to five months, or whatever the time range was, I simply thought, ‘You know what? It’s time to start writing a new chapter in earnest.'”
Melissa Reeves opted not to return when the show’s production was halted due to a coronavirus outbreak in September.
While no decision on a 57th season has been made, NBC still has a few months to make a choice. Because the show is shot months in advance, it can still be renewed without people noticing. In preparation for a possible renewal, writers have allegedly begun work on Season 57.
Days is consistently the least watched of the four extant US network soaps (The Bold and the Beautiful (CBS), Days of Our Lives (NBC), General Hospital (ABC), and The Young and the Restless (CBS).
Days averaged 1.7 million daily viewers in the 2020-2021 TV season (per TV Series Finale), which was lower than The Bold and the Beautiful’s 2.8 million, General Hospital’s 2.1 million, and The Young and the Restless’ 3.2 million. Days also has the lowest number of female viewers aged 18-49, an important target for marketers in that time slot.
Why is Eric Brady actor Greg Vaughan leaving ‘Days of Our Lives’? The delayed episode of ‘Days of Our Lives’ is now available to watch online.
The entire cast of ‘Days of Our Lives’ has been laid off, but NBC insists the show will not be cancelled.
Days Of Our Lives is the only daytime drama on NBC. Passions, which had been on the air for eight years, was the last soap to be cancelled by the network in 2007.
After Meet the Press (which debuted in 1947) and Today (which debuted in 1965), it is the network’s third-oldest show (1952).
