Viktoria Theresie Ljungman (23), of Williamsburg was killed in the plane accident on Thursday afternoon.

Oyebode tried to raise the plane at an extreme angle after takeoff, which resulted in a crash.

What caused the plane to crash?

Michelle Anaya, spokesperson for the state police, stated that the collision occurred on Thursday, at 3:03 PM. The airport was closed for approximately two hours after the collision.

Oyebode attempted to raise the Cessna 172 Skyhawk at “too steep an angle” while trying to take off from Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport. The aircraft stalled at an altitude of approximately 100 feet, before “doving” into a ditch close to the runway.

Oyebode was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital for serious injuries. She then transferred to VCU Hospital Richmond. Viktoria Theresie Langman died from severe injuries.

According to an Instagram posting by the Hampton University Student Government Association (HUSGA), the university has suspended classes on Friday and set up a prayer service for students and staff for Friday morning.
