Richard Armitage is a versatile English actor who works in both film and television. His most well-known roles were Francis Dolarhyde in the American TV series Hannibal and John Thornton in the 2004 British television series North & South.

He achieved worldwide acclaim for his performance as the dwarf chieftain Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit film trilogy.

Along with acting, he longs to carve himself a career as a voice actor due to his distinctive baritone voice. His appearance in the TV series Robin Hood was his voice acting debut.

He debuted in the movie industry in 1999, playing small parts in This Year’s Love, Cleopatra, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999).

He participated in the 2000 RSC Macbeth tour of the United States and Japan, which starred Antony Sher.

He made a name for himself in 2002 playing the endearing but little weird character John Standring alongside Sarah Smart in the three-part BBC Miniseries Sparkhouse.

He played the lead character of Daniel Miller in the Epix original series Berlin Station in 2016, and the same year, he got rave accolades for his performance as Kenneth in Mike Bartlett’s Love, Love, Love at the Roundabout Theatre in New York City.

He contributed to Berlin Station’s second season as well as Ocean’s Eight in 2017.

The movie Pilgrimage debuted in July 2017 to rave reviews. He has narrated a number of audio novels through Audible, for which he has won two Audie Award nominations.
