If you are looking for an accessory that can last for generations, luxury watches are a good way to go. They are made to be durable to last for many years and can even be treated as heirlooms to be given to loved ones. Panerai
Newly sourced virgin materials are probably one of the qualifications in making Panerai. Therefore, it certainly surprised many watch enthusiasts to see Panerai with an important innovation with the Submersible eLAB-ID—a timepiece made of 98.6% recycled materials. This watch model also shows that circular and sustainable practices can apply to the watchmaking industry and are now dubbed as the “watch with the high percentage of recycled materials ever made.”

The Submersible eLAB-IB is made of EcoTitanium, lightweight aero-grade titanium. What sets it apart is the fact that it is made of over 80% recycled content. The timepiece is also the first Panerai watch to make use of 100% recycled Super-LumiNova for its dial and hands, while the escapement makes use of 100% recycled silicon. Even the sapphire crystal and gold hands on the watch use recycled materials.
Sustainability Matters
Sustainability matters. More and younger consumers give importance to environmental consciousness. In turn, brands worldwide are looking for ways to manufacture their products responsibly. To make an eco-friendly innovation, the Submersible eLAB-ID is just one of the many offerings Panerai offers.
Even if it is produced with reused materials, the Submersible does not disappoint. It has a 44mm case powered with 300 meters of water resistance. The aerospace-grade titanium is used to produce the dial and case.
In order to produce the amazing timepiece, Panerai had to establish a new supply chain. They partnered with suppliers who have expertise in recycling materials and released a list of these companies to encourage other watchmakers to switch to a more sustainable form of manufacturing.
Panerai’s Sustainable Suppliers
To inspire and further spread its sustainable initiative, Panerai released the names of suppliers for their high-quality materials. There is still a long way to go to completely overhaul the watchmaking industry, but this might inspire the other manufacturers to go down a more environmentally friendly route.
Here are the suppliers for the Submersible eLAB-ID:
- Eramet subsidiary Aubert & Duval for its EcoTitanium
- Siltronix ST for recycled silicon
- Monyco collects materials for recycling and applies the Super-LumiNova
- Sigatech provides expertise on the use of silicon
- Pro Cadrans for recycled dial
- RC Tritec for luminescent paint and pigment
- Ugitec for recycled steel
- Novo Cristal for recycled sapphire
- Morellato for recycled plastic that makes the strap
Panerai still does all the handiwork for its cases, movement, and base plates. All the assembly, product testing, and quality control is still done at the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchatel and is performed by Panerai itself.
