The number of massage therapists in the United States is currently around 166,700, but this number is expected to increase by approximately 34,400 positions during the next 10 years.

Massage therapists make the most money in these ten states.

According to the most recent BLS data, the national average yearly wage for a massage therapist is $47,180.

This is around $6,000 less than the current national average annual wage of $53,490.

The average massage therapist income varies greatly based on the state in which you work, as it does with other jobs.

Massage therapists in the best-paying state earn an average yearly compensation of $77,080, which is significantly higher than the national average for all jobs.

  • The average massage therapist salary in Oregon is $62,130.
  • The average massage therapist salary in Hawaii is $59,770.
  • The average massage therapist salary in Massachusetts is $57,530.
  • The average pay for a massage therapist in Maine is $53,540.
  • The average massage therapist pay in New York is $52,700.
  • The average massage therapist salary in Nebraska is $52,320.
  • The average pay for a massage therapist in Texas is $51,790.

In terms of salary, Alaska is now the best state for massage therapists.

However, this does not change the reality that massage therapy earnings in the area have decreased.

Massage therapy wages have decreased by 8.5 percent since 2014, when they were $84,270 on average.

Massage therapists in the Pacific Northwest states of Washington and Oregon can expect good remuneration.

The average massage therapist pay in both states is over $60,000, and wages have increased over the last five years.

Many states in the South and Midwest have low compensation for massage therapists.

The average compensation for massage therapists in the worst-paying state, Louisiana, was less than $30,000.

While Louisiana’s cost of living is lower than the national average, the state’s average massage therapy income of $28,790 is still quite low.

Massage therapists’ incomes in Louisiana were not always so low. The average yearly income for a massage therapist in the state was $37,550 five years ago, before dropping by 23.3 percent by 2019.

The wage decrease in Louisiana is the worst of all the states studied.

The state of Rhode Island came in second, with a 10.4% drop in massage therapy salary from 2014 to 2019, followed by Alaska, Maryland, and Iowa.

The average massage therapy pay in Nebraska, on the other hand, increased by 66.5 percent from $31,420 in 2014 to $52,320 in 2019.
